First Adjustment

Just when I felt like I was finally getting used to braces, the orthodontic powers that be give me a big pimp hand slap with my first adjustment.  I went in last week and had 7 spacers put in-- yes, you read that right.  7!!  I thought the 3 I had in to start this whole process was a pain enough, let alone 7.  Needless to say my diet was a little limited for a few days after that, but honestly by day 5-7, I was eating pretty good again with just minor discomfort.  Day 2 was the worst where I couldn't even let my teeth rest and touch each other without major zinger pain.

Thurs I went in to get the spacers out, second molar bands on, as well as a band for my lower left bicuspid that didn't have enough tooth surface to sport a bracket without my top tooth coming down and chomping on it.  Getting the bands in are not fun.  I didn't like that the first time around, either.  Getting the wire swapped out was pretty quick.  My ortho must have a death wish for me though, because he just stepped me up to the next wire for my bottom teeth, and skipped a level for the top.  Even as they were putting it in I could feel the pressure, and they could barely get my gates closed.  I walked out of there thinking I was so screwed on my top teeth, but honestly, it has not been that bad.  Definitely not as bad as when I first got everything on, but still bad enough to where I am on liquid and very soft foods as of today.  I'll be completely honest..... I am kind of liking this forced diet.  I feel pretty good, less bloated, and hungry but not starving.  I don't think I'm malnourished at all.  I do a pretty good job of keeping up with my vitamins, getting lots of water, and I make really awesome healthy green smoothies in my blender often.  And lots of home made soup for the win!  Anywho, I do hope to be eating normally when I leave to go back to FL the first few weeks of July.  My vacations, especially if back to a place where I used to live, revolve around hitting all of my favorite joints and having food that I can't get where I live now.

I'll update with some pics when I take some later, but my teeth have already shifted so much!  I really can not believe how straight my bottom teeth are!  No wonder they have been hurting so bad!  Excited to see where things move next, but at the same time I don't want things to move because my bite is off and that is getting on my nerves a little.  Especially on my right side, which is essentially an open bite now over there, I think.  Oh well, that's the cost of doing business with all of this.  I hear that your bite can get way bad before it gets better with the surgery, so I'm not looking forward to that part of this at all!
