Everything has kind of just been chugging along. I went out of state for the first time since getting the braces, and some things I feared (IE: breaking stuff) did come to play, but all in all it turned out good. I went to FL for 13 days and I was a little bad on the trip. Not awful-- like, I still ate better and minded what got put in my mouth more than most people I know who have or have had braces, but it still bit me. Five minutes after taking off from SJC (yes, literally about five minutes after taking off from being in 'fix it land' close to my orthodontist), I felt one of my inside hooks, which were bent in as far as they could go, pop out and feel sharp and poke me. I was chewing on salmon jerky, which is home made and I made it soft on purpose. ::sigh:: Soft for nothing, I guess! Then once we got to FL we were scalloping with some friends for a few days (check out my friend Ashley's blog post on the trip. It was awesome! http://www.quiltedaffair.com/1/post/2013/07/2nd-annual-scalloping-trip.html ) and after the second day of scalloping I came in off the boat and realized one of my front brackets was off the tooth and pushed all the way over and bumping up against the neighboring bracket. Dammit!! That one was partially my faults because I probably shouldn't be snorkeling with braces on, and then it's partially not my fault since the adhesive on the tooth is already weak since the tooth has composite bonding on it. The ortho has to do a special finish on the bonded teeth to get the brackets to stick well, and my two front teeth didn't get that finish to start off with and instead it's been being done as the brackets break off. This one makes 2 out of 3 of my bonded teeth that have popped, and the 3rd popped right in the office as he was fixing the second. Go figure. At least all 3 of my bonded teeth now have this special finish on it and the brackets will stick. Finally on the last few days of the trip, I was eating dumpling (again, soft foods!), and the lower wire popped out of the back molar bracket. It wasn't poking me in the side of the face hard core or anything, but it definitely was a little annoying. Even though I broke a bunch of stuff, none of it was a show stopper. I was able to get through the vacation and get in first thing the morning after I got back and get everything fixed. And I didn't even get a finger wagged at me or anything! Couldn't believe it!
Now for the pictures..... First are the comparison updates. Can't believe how much things have moved in 10 weeks, especially my bottom teeth. Every day when I floss I can't get over how weird it feels to floss through straight teeth; and how easy it is to floss through teeth that are straight and have space between them! I love it!!!! The second set of photos are part of this summer competition that my orthodontists office is doing. You have to take a cut out of the doc's face and take a unique photo with it. They run a points system in their office where you get points for doing things you should be doing, IE: wearing your rubber bands, keeping everything clean, etc, etc. You can redeem the points for gift cards and stuff, which is super nice of the office to do. I think it's more so for the kids, but I couldn't resist getting in on this competition. They'll offer 500 points (good towards $50 gift card of choice) to the person winning each category for most unique picture, most exotic, and I think the last is most fun. I don't know if anybody else will be taking Dr. Wadden on a skydive. lol!
Don't mind the not so flattering pictures..........
